Car manufacturing down 49.73pc YoY in July

Production of farm tractors increases 18pc, while that of trucks, buses, pickups, LCVs, motorcycles and three-wheelers registers a decrease

ISLAMABAD: The production of passenger cars in the country posted a record decline of 49.73 per cent to 8,280 units during the first month of the fiscal year 2020-21, compared to the production of 16,472 units during July 2019.

According to the latest data issued by Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA), the production of farm tractors in the country witnessed an increase of 18 per cent to 3,317 units during July 2020, compared to the production of 2,811 units during the same month of last year.

During the month under review, production of trucks decreased by 29.39 per cent to 245 units compared to production of 347 units during July 2019.

Similarly, the output of buses decreased by 19.67 per cent to 49 units during July 2020 compared to production of 61 units during July 2019.

Production of pickups also decreased by 33.26 per cent to 1,312 units in July 2020, from production of 1,966 units during the same month of last year.

Moreover, during the period under review, the production of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), vans and jeeps decreased by 24.06 per cent to 385 units compared to production of 507 units during July 2019.

Similarly, production of motorcycles and three wheelers also decreased by 26.74 per cent to 146,916 units during July 2020 compared to the production of 115,205 units during July 2019.
