AGP to conduct audit on govt agencies’ readiness to tackle rain emergencies

ISLAMABAD: The auditor general of Pakistan (AGP) has decided to conduct a special audit on the preparation of government agencies to meet rain-related emergencies in Karachi.

Officials said that the objective of the audit is to examine the funds earmarked and its utilisation in the existing drainage system in Karachi and to check whether adequate financial and human resources were available and properly utilised for drainage and sewerage system.

This audit team will examine the expenditure of clearing the stormwater drains in Karachi. They will also look into the government’s preparedness for rain emergencies for the periods 2017-18, and 2019-20. The audit will be conducted for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, six districts of Municipal Corporation of Karachi, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and five Cantonment Boards of Karachi, the official added.
