LHC moved for making airbags mandatory in vehicles

LAHORE: A writ petition seeking amendments in Automotive Development Policy (ADP) 2016-2021 for making airbags mandatory in each and every vehicle has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC).

The petitioner made different federal government departments and major vehicle brands as respondents in the case.

He implored the court that fatal accidents can be prevented with the use of airbags in vehicles, stressing that the restraint system is the need of the time for protecting citizens.

“The government has given guidelines on the subject matter by way of ADP but airbags are not mandatory in the whole policy (ADP 2016-2021). Therefore, the policy must be revised, amended or reframed by inserting a clause to make airbags mandatory in all vehicles,” the petition states.
