Pakistan Railways increases freight charges by 3%

Passengers will continue to travel at the existing rates as fares remain unchanged

Pakistan Railways (PR) announced a 3% increase in freight charges effective from July 3, 2024, rejecting rumours about a rise in passenger fares.

According to a notification issued on Monday, the revised rates will apply to all goods traffic starting July 3, 2024. The total freight will be rounded off as per previous practice.

A PR spokesperson stated that the government has no plans to increase passenger fares, and passengers will continue to travel at the existing rates nationwide.

The 3% increase in freight rates will not apply to steel coils, petroleum products, LHC, LMC, shunting charges, wharfage, demurrage, and destination charges.

Divisional Superintendents have been informed that the notification was issued with the approval of the CEO/senior general manager.

A revised goods rates table showing the calculated rate per ton up to 5,000 kilometers is under preparation and will be distributed to all stations open to goods traffic booking.
