Pakistan and Hong Kong sign MoC to enhance legal cooperation and innovation

The agreement focuses on strengthening legal affairs, arbitration, and emerging areas like digital governance and virtual assets

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and Hong Kong signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on Wednesday to strengthen legal cooperation, marking a significant step toward enhancing cross-border partnerships.

The MoC was signed on the sidelines of the 10th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong by Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Justice Raja Naeem Akbar and Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong, Paul T.K.

Under the agreement, both parties aim to enhance cooperation in legal affairs, capacity-building, and the promotion of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). The collaboration will also extend to emerging areas such as digital governance and the regulation of virtual assets.

During his address at the Summit, Akbar emphasized that the MoC reflects Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing its legal sector and fostering stronger international legal ties.

“The cooperation framework will not only facilitate knowledge exchange and institutional reforms but also foster legal and regulatory innovation under the Belt and Road Initiative,” Akbar said.

The signing of the MoC signals a new phase of collaboration between the two sides in the fields of justice and legal reform, with both parties agreeing to launch joint initiatives and capacity-building programs to address the challenges of a rapidly evolving global legal landscape.
