Pakistan’s exports back to pre-Covid levels, cross $2bn in Oct: Dawood

ISLAMABAD: While the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) is yet to release export figures for the month of October, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood has claimed that the country’s exports are back to the Pre-Covid levels, with positive growth of over $2 billion in October.

“Exports have maintained the growth trend in October 2020. Our exports have crossed the 2 billion mark after July 2020 and are back on track to pre-COVID-19 levels,” the adviser tweeted on Monday. “This is despite the contraction in our major markets due to COVID-19 and the uncertainty created by the recent resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.

Dawood also congratulated the exporters on the latest achievement.

Meanwhile, in another tweet, Dawood expressed satisfaction over the increase in pharmaceutical exports. “I am glad to share that our pharmaceutical exports have gotten off to a good start this year. In value terms, our exports have grown by 22.6pc in the first quarter (Q1) to $68.1 million as compared to $55.6 million in the corresponding period last year.”

As per the adviser, this was achieved due to the hard work of pharmaceutical exporters and the government’s renewed focus on exports. Dawood also expressed gratitude to SAPM on Health Dr Faisal Sultan.
