US refuses to import prawns from Pakistan

The US has refused to purchase prawns from Pakistan owing to the negligence of Marine Fisheries Department (MFD).

US team visits Pakistan every year and reviews minutely all the hygienic aspects of the food.

Sources said that MFD couldn’t satisfy US team this year, due to which MFD remained cannot issue DS certificate anymore.

DS Certificate is issued on the measurement of international standards and the US does not import prawns from any country without complying with this requirement.

Exporters said Pakistan will have to bear the loss of millions of rupees due to a minor negligence of the Marine Fisheries Department.
