Amazon to launch quick commerce trials in India, targets 15-minute deliveries

Amazon follows Walmart-backed Flipkart, which piloted its quick commerce service earlier this year in select cities, offering 10-minute grocery deliveries

Amazon announced Tuesday it will begin trials for quick commerce operations in India, aiming to deliver grocery items in 15 minutes or less.

The U.S. e-commerce giant joins a competitive market where local players like Zomato’s Blinkit and Swiggy’s Instamart offer delivery times as fast as 10 minutes.

Samir Kumar, country manager for Amazon India, stated the company aims to provide “the largest selection at the fastest speeds and greatest value to customers in every pin-code across the country.” The move aligns with the growing quick commerce trend in India, where the market is projected to reach $6 billion in annual sales this year, up from $100 million in 2020, according to Datum Intelligence.

Amazon follows Walmart-backed Flipkart, which piloted its quick commerce service earlier this year in select cities, offering 10-minute grocery deliveries. The sector continues to attract major players as consumer demand for ultra-fast delivery grows across the country.
