Nvidia warns U.S. national security is not improved by new AI chip rule

The regulation would harm U.S. leadership in AI technology and threaten to derail innovation and economic growth worldwide, says Nivida

Nvidia has criticized a new effort by the Biden administration to tighten control over artificial intelligence (AI) chip exports, warning that it would not improve U.S. national security.

The company argued that the regulation, expected to be published as soon as Monday, would harm U.S. leadership in AI technology and “threaten to derail innovation and economic growth worldwide.”

Nvidia Vice President of Government Affairs, Ned Finkle, said the rule would “impose bureaucratic control over how America’s leading semiconductors, computers, systems, and even software are designed and marketed globally.” He added that it would damage the U.S.’s role in AI development.

Finkle further stated that the rule would not address any security concerns and would control technology already available in consumer hardware and gaming products. “Rather than mitigate any threat, the new Biden rules would only weaken America’s global competitiveness, undermining the innovation that has kept the U.S. ahead,” he concluded.
