PTAA urges PM to rein in FBR’s unjustified tax demands

Islamabad: Pakistan Tax Advisors Association (PTAA) has sought the help of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to refrain the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from seeking illegal and bogus tax demands against taxpayers.

According to PTAA, it is causing blockage of income tax refunds and also unwarranted litigations. PTAA Chairman, Javed Iqbal Qazi communicated to the PM, that FBR had barred its field-force from issuing refunds especially in the Income Tax side and the unpredictable approach being taken up by the tax collector.

He said FBR heeding to demands of international agencies was using unconventional ways for tax collection which had resulted in deep mistrust between the taxpayers and tax-collector.

Qazi commented that complaints from across the country had been lodged with PTAA, that illegal and bogus demands were being made by FBR officials against already existing taxpayers was resulting in unwarranted litigation charges.

He added “It has also been brought to our knowledge that the first appellate authority, which is directly operating under the administrative control of the FBR, has been directed to not allow relief where huge demands have been created despite the fact that the issues are settled.”

Chairman PTTA urged the PM that his government should work for the goodwill of the people and restore confidence under his able leadership. He hoped that everyone would be granted their rights especially the FBR which would result in a coherent environment of facilitation and trust.
