Punjab govt approves new NOC framework for petrol pump establishments

Approval aims to streamline petrol pump setup processes; legislative reforms on child labor and occupational safety also discussed

The Punjab government on Friday approved a new policy framework for the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) required to establish new petrol pumps in the province.

The approval came during the 21st meeting of the Punjab Cabinet Committee on Legislation Business and Privatisation, chaired by Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman.

The committee, which included secretaries from all relevant departments, reviewed key legislative reforms and policy amendments aimed at enhancing public welfare. Among the discussed proposals were the draft Punjab Child Labour (Prohibition) Rules 2024 and the draft Punjab Occupational Safety and Health Rules 2024.

Minister Rehman emphasized that all new legislation should adhere to international best practices, protect human rights, and ensure effective implementation. The meeting also explored the proposed Twinning Agreement between Faisalabad and Shymkent, Kazakhstan, aiming to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand Punjab’s global engagement.

Rehman stressed that cabinet committees are crucial in ensuring transparency and efficiency in policymaking. He instructed the relevant departments to finalize the proposed measures and present them to the full cabinet for approval.
