Lahore High Court rejects Honda Atlas request to transfer CCP case

Court sets October 13 for final arguments in consumer exploitation probe

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has rejected Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) Limited’s (HACL) attempt to transfer its case against the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) and has set October 13, 2025, for final arguments.

HACL, accused of consumer exploitation through premium payments, delayed deliveries, and price escalations, had challenged the CCP’s jurisdiction to investigate its practices.

The court declined HACL’s request to shift the case and instructed both parties to proceed with arguments on the merits without further delay.

CCP’s counsel informed the court that the inquiry, which began in 2018, had been stalled since 2023 due to HACL’s legal maneuvers but assured the court that the probe would be completed within six months after the stay is lifted.

Honda failed to fully cooperate despite five official notices from 2018 to 2022, instead filing multiple petitions to delay the proceedings.

With over 15 hearings and adjournments, the case will now proceed toward a final ruling next month.

The CCP maintains that it had a valid quorum when the inquiry was initiated and the probe covers potential violations of Sections 3 and 4 of the Competition Act, 2010.

The Commission aims to establish a precedent for consumer rights and fair competition in Pakistan’s auto sector, with 13 carmakers now operating in the market, up from just three when the investigation began.
