FBR formulating long-term strategy to expand tax net: Zaidi

Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Syed Shabbar Zaidi has said that the FBR is working on a long-term strategy to expand the tax net in the country, Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, he underlined the importance of building the confidence of the business fraternity so as to jack up the economic sector of the country.

Zaidi admitted that the tax recovery in the country was not up to the mark. He, however, said that there was a dire need to improve the tax recovery sector.

The chairman said that a long-term strategy is being evolved for broadening the tax network so that the desired revenue collection could be made in an appropriate manner.

Earlier on May 18, Zaidi had vowed long term reforms in the tax system.

Talking to industrialists and businessmen at Karachi Chamber of Commerce, the FBR chairman had said there was nothing ambiguous in tax amnesty scheme law and it will not be amended in the finance bill.

He had said that Afghan Transit Trade is not the only path being used for smuggling in Pakistan, adding that sale of smuggled items on shops is also against the principles of Sharia.

  2. Please catch hold of the political parties who have looted this country’s wealth, the bureaucrats, the white collar mafia’s, the real state builders, the money changer company’s, the stock brokers, etc etc who have all manipulated the revenue of this country to benefit themselves rather than for a common lower, middle class, or upper middle class person’s of Pakistan. Mr.FBR honorary Chairman, kindly do not put any additional tax burden on a common lower, middle class citizens of this country, we’ve already had enough with the past government’s of this country.
