ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Tuesday approved seven projects worth Rs12.23 billion and recommended five projects worth Rs158.230 billion to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) for consideration.

The CDWP meeting, which was presided over by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, reviewed projects related to energy, higher education, information technology, science & technology, transport & communications and water resources.

The CDWP  approved an energy sector project titled ‘Evacuation of Power from 660MW Lucky Electric Coal-Fired Power Plant at Port Qasim’. The project was worth Rs1,315.15 million.

Meanwhile, two projects related to higher education; ‘Establishment of National Centre of Industrial Biotechnology for Pilot Manufacturing of Bioproducts Using Synthetic Biology and Metabolic Engineering Technology’, worth Rs1,439.775 million, and ‘Smart University Transformation through Smart Classrooms [Phase-1])’, worth Rs2,330.56 million were also by the CDWP.

In addition, the working party approved a project related to information technology namely ‘Extension of Islamabad Hospital HMIS (Hospital Management Information System) and Networking Facilities to Children Hospital’, worth Rs59.732 million.

Two projects related to science & technology were presented during the meeting. The first titled ‘Advanced Skills Development through International Scholarships (phase-1) — Prime Minister Knowledge-Economy Task Force Initiatives’, worth Rs12,460 million, was recommended to ECNEC, whereas the second project titled ‘Pak University of Engineering & Emerging Technology (PIEET)’, worth Rs3,281.00 million, was approved by the CDWP.

Five projects related to transport & communication were presented in the meeting. The first project ‘Construction of Road from Nagar Sharif to Suntsar (54km), worth Rs1,256.97 million, was approved by CDWP, whereas the second project ‘Dualization and Rehabilitation of DG Khan-DI Khan Section (208.19km)’, worth Rs53,354.46 million, was referred to ECNEC.

The last three T&C projects; ‘Construction of Rajanpur-DG Khan Section as 4-Lane Highway of N-55 (121.59km), worth Rs33,946.670 million, ‘Indus Highway (N-55) Additional Carriageway Project (Shikarpur- Rajanpur Section) Length 221.95 km’, worth Rs47,512.860 million, and ‘Operationalization of Green Line BRTS and Installation of Integrated Intelligent Transport’, worth Rs10,956.16 million, were referred to ECNEC for consideration.

A project related to Water Resources titled ‘Increasing Storage Capacity and Improvement in Command area of Tanda Dam District Kohat’, worth Rs2,545.55 million, was approved by CDWP.

Five concept clearance proposals were also considered and cleared for donor financing.
