P&D minister approves establishment of food grain silos in Punjab

Punjab Minister for Planning and Development Malik Nadeem Kamran has given a green signal to the Food Grain Silos project at the 29th Steering Committee meeting held at P&D Complex.

The establishment of Food Grain Silos through Public Private Partnership will be an important step towards developing wheat storage facilities in Punjab which faces a serious shortage of food grain silos.

The minister stated that the new silos will be multi-purposed and will be important in improving food storage in the province.

Agha Waqar Javed, Punjab Member PPP Cell P&D, while stating that the provincial government is encouraging private investments in the sector revealed that as many as 40 Silos will be constructed in collaboration with the private sector under BOO (Build-Own-Operate) modal.

Food Secretary Shaukat Ali told that the usage of these silos will not be confined to the storage of wheat but for other crops as well. The committee also approved Project Development Facility (PDF) funding for the Dualisation of Sheikhupura-Hafizabad road under PPP mode and Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at Sundar Industrial Estate.
