ISLAMABAD: The import of mobile phones into the country has witnessed an increase of 81.32pc during the fiscal year (2019-20) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.37 billion in FY20 as compared to the imports of $755.548 million last year, according to data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
On a year-on-year basis, the import of mobile phones witnessed an increase of 300.62pc in June 2020, as compared to the same month of last year.
Mobile phone imports were recorded at $231.303 million in June 2020, as against the imports of $57.736 million in June 2019.
Meanwhile, on a month-on-month basis, the imports of mobile phones also surged by 108.27pc in June 2020, as compared to the imports of $111.059 million in May 2020.
It is pertinent to mention that the country’s trade deficit witnessed a significant reduction during FY20, declining by 27.12pc as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
The country’s exports decreased by 6.81pc to $21.394 billion, as against the exports of $22.958 billion in the same period of last year.
On the other hand, the country’s imports witnessed a significant decrease of 18.61pc, from $54.763 billion in FY19 to $44.574 billion.Â
