SECMC signs agreements with Thalnova and Thar Energy for supply of 1.9m tons coal

Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) has signed separate agreements with Thal Nova and Thar Energy for the supply of coal amounting to 1.9m tonnes each annually from Thar. Both these companies are setting up two mine-mouth powers plants of 330MW each at Thar block-II, which will be run from domestically mined coal from Thar. These power projects are expected to come online by the start of 2020.

By signing this agreement, SECMC will be able to mine 7.6m tons of coal annually and help in reducing the coal tariff to roughly $41.35 per ton once the project becomes functional. Hub Power owns Thar Energy Limited which is its subsidiary and ranks among Pakistan’s biggest independent power producers (IPPS). And ThalNova is a joint venture between Thal Power and Novagen Powergen Limited whose respective subsidiaries these two companies are.
