Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) SMS booking service for new currency notes has been a major success, as so far 1.6m people have been able to get booking codes out of which 40pc have already availed the services and received the amount against surrender of exchange value.
The SBP said on Friday “We expect the service will reach its maximum limit of bookings in a few days and further bookings will not be possible thereafter.” Last week, State Bank of Pakistan, through its subsidiary SBP Banking Services Corporation (SBP BSC) had re-launched the SMS service for issuance of fresh currency notes to the general public from the 12th of June.
The service has been made available through a network of 1002 e-branches of banks in 120 cities and 16 field offices of SBP BSC across Pakistan. According to the central bank, this service will be closed after the 20th of June when the services is expected to reach its maximum limit. For customers, who have received a booking code, will be entitled to get fresh currency notes from their designated branches by the 23rd of June, depending on the validity of the code.
