Nepra approves power tariff cut of Rs1.90 per unit for May 2017

The actual fuel charges for May 2017 were recorded at Rs4.807 per unit in comparison to reference fuel price of Rs 6.7764 per unit, reflecting a difference of Rs1.857 per unit.

Islamabad: The electricity tariff for customers of state-owned power distribution companies has been reduced by Rs 1.90 per unit for May 2017. This was announced by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority on Tuesday. This tariff cut is not applicable for K-Electric consumers and for those using up to 300 units of electricity per month, whilst Rs20b will be refunded back to the consumers.

According to data released by NEPRA, power generation was assessed at 11,024 gigawatt-hours (GWh) and the CPPA-G delivered 10,888 GWh, forming 98.7pc of total production. Power transmission losses were calculated at 122.8GWH, forming 1.11pc of total generation. The actual fuel charges for May 2017 were recorded at Rs4.807 per unit in comparison to reference fuel price of Rs 6.7764 per unit, reflecting a difference of Rs1.857 per unit. Total cost of net electricity supply to distribution companies was recorded at Rs53.105b.

Electricity generated through hydel sources in May was recorded at 30.17pc with no clear fuel cost, 30pc via residual fuel oil at a cost of Rs9.4 per unit reaching Rs31b, Natural gas fired power generation contributed 17.64pc at a cost of Rs4.4378 per unit reaching Rs8.630b. Coal-fired power generation contributed 2.15pc at a cost of Rs0.1102 per unit reaching Rs 26.13b, high-speed diesel power generation contributed 3.69pc at a cost of Rs14.7 per unit reaching Rs5.981b and from R-LNG sources the total cost of production was Rs6b at Rs7.11 per unit.
