Three fertilizer factories shut due to non-availability of Sui-gas: committee

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research was informed that three fertilizer factories were shut down due to the non-availability of Sui-gas. It was also stated that the fertilizer crisis couldĀ recur in the forthcoming months.

The standing committee meeting was held under the supervision of Shakir Bashir Awan at PARC office. A large number of members attended the meeting.

During the hearing Federal Minister Sikandar Hayat Khan Biosan informed the committee that the government had provided relief to the farmers by reducing the prices of fertilizer.

However, he stated that three fertilizer factories were shut down due to the non-availability of Sui-gas and feared that a fertilizer crisis could recurĀ in the forthcoming months. ā€œCostly fertilizer export from aboard could end if these factories runā€ he added.
