Out of the newly elected board members Abbas Arslan, Hassaan Khan Sherwani and Muhammad Saad Munawar Khan are completely new faces and have not served on the board or the council ever before.

The non-profit SDSB Alumni Association was formed with the aim to work for the welfare of its members and to play a leading role in enhancing the student experience and worldwide prestige of the institution and has been in the past bringing its members together periodically for networking, intellectual development and resource generation. For this purpose, the organisation arranges informal get-togethers, courses and lectures by recognised national and international scholars. The association members also work to generate resources to meet the objectives of LUMS and SDSB in particular.

However, according to sources, the seats on the board offer much more than just providing a way to give back to one’s alma mater with a number of former members progressing to the universities Board of Trustees from here.

For example, one of the former presidents of the association Shahzad Saleem who set up Nishat Chunian Limited after graduating from LUMS in 1989 also served on universities Board of Trustees. Similarly, Fatima Asad-Said, Regional Director at Abacus Consulting and President of the SDSB Luminites Association from 2015 to 2017, also now sits on the Board of Trustees for the institution.
