LAHORE:Ā In a meeting led by the Abdul Razak Dawood and Omar Ayub, the government of Pakistan has decided to start supplying electricity to the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), immediately after the budget.
During a meeting co-chaired by the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce and Textiles, Industries and Production and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood and Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub on Thursday, it was decided that steps should be taken towards the provision of electricity and gas to SEZs.
Meanwhile, it was also decided that Karachi’s Bin Qasim Industrial Park (BQIP) would be the first zone to get relief through the provision of electricity after the budget.
According to a press release, it was decided that electricity would be provided to nine SEZs on priority basis including Karachiās BQIP Karachi and Korangi Creek Industrial Park under section 27 (I) of the SEZ Act, 2012 ā āthe Federal and Provincial Governments to ensure the provision of gas, electricity and other utilities at the designated zero point of each SEZ.ā
It was also disclosed that the cost of providing these utilities to the economic zones would be met through the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
Moreover, Minister for Power Omar Ayub issued directions to K-Electric to make all necessary arrangements to start the provision of electricity to BQIP.
