NEPRA to conduct hearing as KE seeks Rs3.23 tariff hike

K-Electric has submitted an application requesting the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase the power tariff by Rs3.23 under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism.

As per details, As per details, KE has requested NEPRA to increase the price of electricity for four months and reduce it for three months for monthly Fuel Charges Adjustments. The plea has requested to hike the price of electricity for the period June 2020 to December 2020, quarterly adjustments for the quarter ending June 2020, September 2020, and December 2020 under the Multi Year Tariff 2017-2023.

Similarly, the power distributor has also requested the increase of Rs3.80 and a decrease of Rs3.91 for tri-monthly adjustment for the period of April 2020 to December 2020

NEPRA will conduct a hearing of K-Electric’s plea on February 23.

According to NEPRA documents released on Monday, power consumers have paid Rs366.18 billion rupees, or 65 per cent, above the actual cost of producing electricity in the past year.

The documents show 119.72 billion units of electricity were produced for the year at a total cost of Rs561 bn. Consumers have paid a total of Rs961 bn for the electricity, including taxes and surcharges levied by the government, in addition to profits of producers and distributors.
