The caretaker government has announced a reduction in the prices of petroleum products, except petrol, for the first half of December.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the decision was made in view of the lower prices in the international market.
The ministry said that the ex-depot price of petrol would remain unchanged at Rs281.34 per litre. However, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) would be reduced by Rs7 per litre, while those of kerosene and light diesel oil would be cut by Rs3.82 and Rs4.52 per litre, respectively.
The new ex-depot prices of HSD, kerosene and light diesel oil would be Rs289.71, Rs201.16 and Rs175.93 per litre, respectively. The retail prices at petrol pumps would be slightly higher than these rates.
The government is currently charging about Rs80 per litre tax on both petrol and HSD, despite having zero general sales tax (GST) on all petroleum products. The government is also levying Rs60 per litre petroleum development levy (PDL) on both products.
Meanwhile, the government has increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for the month of December by Rs5.5 per kg. The new price of LPG would be Rs200.5 per kg, up from Rs195 per kg in November. The price of LPG cylinder would be Rs2,366, up from Rs2,261.
