Diesel price expected to drop by Rs3.9/litre from Dec 15

Petrol prices are anticipated to increase by 81 paisa per litre due to fluctuations in global market

The price of high-speed diesel in Pakistan is expected to decrease by Rs3.90 per litre from December 16, mainly due to fluctuations in the global oil market.

However, petrol prices are anticipated to increase by 81 paisa per litre, raising the cost to Rs252.91 per litre.

In global markets, the premium for petrol has settled at $8.84 per barrel, down from $9.80 during the previous price review, which ended on November 30.

These adjustments are likely to impact consumption patterns, potentially aiding the government in achieving its monthly petroleum levy collection target.

Petroleum levy receipts rose to Rs110 billion in November, marking a 19% increase compared to the same period last year.

If approved by the government, Diesel, widely used in transport and agriculture, will see its price drop to Rs254.53 per litre from the current Rs258.43, providing some relief to consumers for next fortnight.

Petrol is primarily consumed by motorcycles and passenger vehicles. The inland freight equalization margin for petrol and high-speed diesel has been set at Rs7.92 and Rs4.15 per litre, respectively.

Kerosene oil, often used for cooking and heating in remote areas, is expected to see a price cut of Rs3.97, reducing it to Rs161.01 per litre.

Similarly, light diesel oil, mainly used in industries, may cost Rs3.55 less, bringing its price down to Rs148.18 per litre.
