Railways clears encroachments in Peshawar, recovers land worth billions

Over 55 shops razed after court ruling; Minister Abbasi vows zero tolerance on land grabbing

Pakistan Railways has reclaimed land valued at billions of rupees in Peshawar Division after demolishing long-standing illegal structures in a major anti-encroachment operation.

The clearance drive targeted 55 permanent shops—constructed illegally in the 1970s—that had encroached within a 30-foot radius along both sides of the railway track near Hashtnagri Crossing, Dalazak Road, and Peshawar City Station. The operation was carried out following the resolution of a decades-old legal dispute, which was finally settled in favor of Pakistan Railways.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, who directed the operation, praised Divisional Superintendent Peshawar Farman Ghani, Legal Consultant Huma Noreen Hassan, and their team for executing the task effectively. He reaffirmed the ministry’s stance on safeguarding state-owned assets, declaring:

“Encroachments on railway land will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The zero-tolerance policy will continue with full force.”
