The Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) and Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) have jointly requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the income tax return filing deadline to November 15, 2025, citing ongoing technical issues in the IRIS portal and a shortened filing period due to late form notification.
In separate letters, both associations highlighted that the current October 15 deadline has become impractical as taxpayers continue to face portal errors and system slowdowns.
PTBA noted that taxpayers are taking FBR’s automated notifications regarding assets, debit and credit card spending, and bank transactions seriously and are now more inclined to file accurate disclosures.
KTBA, however, expressed concern that several technical and legal issues in the IRIS portal—repeatedly communicated in letters dated August 28, September 16, 19, and 23—remain unresolved.
The associations also pointed out that the final income tax return form was notified on August 18, effectively cutting the legally allowed 92-day filing window under Section 118 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, by 49 days.
They urged the FBR to provide a fair extension to prevent taxpayers from being penalized for delays caused by system inefficiencies.
