The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has notified a fuel cost adjustment relief of about 93 paise per unit for electricity consumers, to be reflected in January 2026 bills for power consumed in November 2025.
In a separate development the same day, the government filed a petition seeking the application of a uniform national average tariff, proposing a further reduction of around 62 paise per unit from January 1, 2026, for a six-month period. Nepra has scheduled a public hearing on January 12 ahead of notifying revised base tariffs for all distribution companies, including K-Electric.
Nepra said it had determined a negative fuel cost adjustment of Rs0.9326 per kilowatt-hour for November 2025. The relief will apply to all consumer categories of K-Electric and other distribution companies, excluding lifeline consumers, protected consumers, electric vehicle charging stations and prepaid consumers who have opted for prepaid tariffs.Â
Distribution companies have been directed to pass on the adjustment in January bills.
The regulator noted that the national average tariff had been worked out at Rs33.38 per unit, compared with Rs34 per unit during the first half of the current fiscal year.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency, on behalf of distribution companies, had sought a 72-paisa per unit negative FCA, estimating a refund of about Rs5.6 billion to consumers.Â
After verification, Nepra determined a higher relief of 93 paise per unit, translating into a refund of around Rs7.3 billion.
