Services exports bounce back in September

LAHORE: The export of services rebounded and posted a growth of 12.66 per cent year-on-year to $463.16 million in September, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The first two months of 2020-21 witnessed negative growth in the export of services.

However, the service exports between July-September period fell by 5.4pc to $1.225 billion as against $1.295bn over the corresponding months last year.

Export of services dipped by over 8.66pc year-on-year (YoY) to $5.449bn in 2019-20 from $5.966bn in the preceding year.

On month-on-month (MoM) basis, the exports from the country witnessed an increase of 29.75pc in September 2020 when compared to the exports of $356.97 million in August 2020.

Meanwhile, the country’s merchandise trade deficit witnessed a reduction of 1.88pc during the first four months of FY21 as compared to the deficit of the corresponding period of last year.

The deficit during the period was recorded at $7.577 billion as compared to the deficit of $7.722 billion last year, according to PBS data.
