Telenor to make crucial futuristic decision in Pakistan by the year-end

The telecommunication company currently faces three principal choices: a merger, a sale, or a shift to a different operational model

Telenor, one of Norway’s leading telecommunications operators, is on the brink of making a crucial decision regarding the future of its operations in Pakistan. CEO Sigve Brekke revealed on Wednesday that the company is actively exploring multiple strategic options and is aiming to reach a resolution before the year’s end.

“We are in contact with many parties now, which is why I say I’m rather optimistic that we will, by the end of the year, have a final solution,” Brekke stated, reflecting the urgency and commitment Telenor is showing toward its Pakistan business.

Telenor currently faces three principal choices: a merger, a sale, or a shift to a different operational model. These options are part of a broader strategy Telenor has been implementing in various parts of its Asian business operations.

Federal IT and Telecom Secretary, Hassan Nasir Jamy, emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating the growth of the telecom sector during a meeting with Telenor Group Head of Asia, Borre Furberg. Jamy highlighted the government’s support for the telecom sector, emphasizing the efforts to provide maximum facilities for its development.

Furthermore, Jamy revealed that the caretaker IT Minister, Dr. Umar Saif, had shown a special interest in promoting the IT and telecom sector in Pakistan. These actions by the government are expected to create a more conducive and cost-effective environment for telecom companies operating in Pakistan.
