Govt to ban state-level wheat import to keep prices stable

Pakistan claims a significant surplus of wheat, ensuring a robust supply chain to meet the needs of the populace

The caretaker government has decided to ban state-level wheat imports to stabilize flour prices and abundant domestic reserves.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) took the decision to ban the state-level import of wheat as the flour prices in Pakistan are stable and the country has enough reserves.

The committee concluded that the existing reserves within the country are more than sufficient to meet the national demand, prompting the decision to curtail state-level imports.

Insiders within the government revealed that Pakistan boasts a significant surplus of wheat, ensuring a robust supply chain to meet the needs of the populace.

This decision follows a comprehensive briefing by the Ministry of National Food Security to the ECC, highlighting the country’s current wheat supply situation.

The ECC commended the proactive measures taken by the ministry to address potential concerns.

The decision came after the Ministry of National Food Security briefed the ECC on wheat supply whereas the committee applauded the measures taken by the ministry in this regard.
Yesterday, the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet approved a Technical Supplementary Grant amounting to 7.15 billion rupees for Federal Education and Professional training.
