CNG equipped Suzuki Mehran discontinued

Karachi: The CNG equipped version of Suzuki Mehran has been scrapped by Pak Suzuki Motor Company as of July 10th. The company has stated that it intends to deliver all the orders of its CNG variant of Suzuki Mehran to the customers who have already ordered it. Pak Suzuki has also sent a letter to dealers, apprising them about the discontinuation of the CNG equipped version of Suzuki Mehran.

The decision comes amidst the shortage of CNG that had hit the sector a few years ago, which forced motor vehicle owners to get rid of the kits and cylinders they had installed for this purpose. Pak Suzuki Motors had a lion’s share in CNG factory fitted vehicles of over 80pc in the country before the shortage of gas stalled its sales in 2012-2013.

The drop-in adoption of CNG equipped vehicles is also attributable to a decline in petrol prices as in October 2013 it was priced at Rs113.24 which now stands at Rs71.30 per litre. The previous government had banned the import of CNG cylinders and kits due to gas shortage, but was lifted in July 2014 for factory fitted vehicles.
