Government sets minimum Nisab for Zakat at Rs179,689

Deduction date expected on March 1 or 2, subject to moon sighting

The government has fixed the Nisab for Zakat at Rs179,689 for the year 1445-46 A.H., setting the threshold for deductions from savings bank accounts, profit and loss sharing accounts, and similar accounts.

The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security issued a notification on February 26, 2025, to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Zakat Collection Controlling Agencies.

The Zakat deduction is expected to take place on March 1 or 2, depending on the appearance of the moon.

According to the ministry’s notification, the Administrator General Zakat has formally announced the Nisab amount, confirming that Zakat will not be deducted from accounts with a balance below this threshold on the first day of Ramazan 1446 A.H.

The notification states that all Zakat Collection and Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) must deduct Zakat accordingly. It also directs them to submit a copy of the return of Form CZ-08 (A & B) to the ministry immediately after depositing the collected Zakat into the Central Zakat Account No. CZ-08 maintained with the SBP.

In the previous year, the Nisab for Zakat was set at Rs135,179 for 1444-45 A.H., while in 2023, it was fixed at Rs103,159.
