Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif emphasised that Pakistan’s IT workforce is capable of competing in the global market, adding that all necessary facilities were being provided to IT companies to achieve the target of $25 billion in IT exports.
The prime minister shared these views during a meeting with a four-member delegation led by Jerome Kapelus, CEO of the renowned American multinational IT company Afiniti, which called on him at the PM Office, as per a press release from the PM Media Wing.
The prime minister welcomed Afiniti’s interest in further investing in Pakistan’s IT sector and encouraged the company to establish a world-class call centre for national and international clients in Pakistan.
He further mentioned that he was personally overseeing programs aimed at equipping the country’s talented youth with skills in IT, AI, and other advanced technologies.
Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, along with senior officials from relevant institutions, attended the meeting.
The delegation praised the expertise of Pakistani IT professionals and their commitment to the development of the sector. Jerome Kapelus stated that Pakistan’s IT sector is highly suitable for investment and business, noting that more than 1,000 skilled Pakistani professionals are currently employed at Afiniti.
He added that the success of Afiniti in the region was due to Pakistan’s highly trained and capable workforce, further underscoring the potential of Pakistani youth in driving the growth of the IT sector.
