Power Division denies reports of ban on second electricity meter installation

Power Division clarifies that second meters can still be installed under existing laws, urges public to disregard false reports

The Power Division issued a statement refuting claims circulating on social media regarding a supposed “ban on installing two electricity meters.” The division described these reports as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to create confusion among the public.

According to the spokesperson, the installation of a second electricity meter is still permissible for residential properties that meet specific criteria. Under the NEPRA Consumer Services Manual 2021, any residential unit that has a separate portion, circuit, entrance, and kitchen is eligible for an additional meter.

The spokesperson further warned that spreading such false information is a punishable offense under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). While reiterating that laws to prevent the misuse of electricity and wrongful benefit of subsidies remain in effect, the Power Division urged the public to disregard these false claims.

The division called on consumers to cooperate with electricity distribution companies and ensure the proper and transparent use of electricity meters, ensuring that subsidies reach the rightful recipients in a timely manner.
