UK regulator reviews Boeing’s deal to acquire Spirit AeroSystems

In 2024, Boeing agreed to buy back Spirit AeroSystems for $4.7 billion in stock to regain control of key manufacturing operations

Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority said on Thursday it is reviewing Boeing’s proposed acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems to determine whether the deal could affect competition in the UK or other markets.

The regulator has not launched a formal investigation but is seeking public comments by July 15 to help decide the next step.

Boeing agreed in 2024 to buy back Spirit AeroSystems for $4.7 billion in stock. The move aims to bring key manufacturing operations back under Boeing’s control, especially in Wichita and Oklahoma, which it originally spun off in 2005.

Spirit AeroSystems, which became the largest independent maker of aircraft structures, has worked with multiple aircraft manufacturers during its time as a separate company.

Airbus completed a separate deal in April to acquire Spirit facilities that support its aircraft programs.
