Punjab PDWP approves Rs3.58 billion for key infrastructure and public service projects

Approved projects include road construction, education initiatives, and technology systems, with a focus on enhancing connectivity, legal processes, and public services across the province

LAHORE: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved eight significant development schemes across various sectors, with a total estimated cost of Rs. 3,579.9 million. The approval was granted during the 38th meeting of the current fiscal year, chaired by P&D Board Chairman Dr. Naeem Rauf.

Among the approved projects is the rehabilitation and improvement of the Southern Bypass in Bahawalpur, estimated at Rs. 943.5 million, aimed at enhancing connectivity to National Highway (N-5). Another notable infrastructure project is the construction of a 44 km road from Khairpur Tamewali to Maroot in Bahawalpur, with a budget of Rs. 1,200 million.

The meeting also approved the construction and improvement of a 7.5 km road from Kotani Road to the BMP Check Post Lakhani in Dera Ghazi Khan/Taunsa, with an allocation of Rs. 986.9 million. This project will include a pile foundation bridge, significantly improving road access.

Additionally, the PDWP greenlit several technology and public service projects, including the second phase of the Forensic Information Management System, aimed at enhancing forensic capabilities, and the AI-based Litigation Management & Training System, designed to streamline legal processes.

Another important approval was for the creation of a Media Think Tank for resilience and counter-narrative initiatives, alongside the construction of Lady Bar Rooms in Punjab at an estimated cost of Rs. 450 million.

The projects reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure, legal services, and public facilities across the province. The meeting was attended by Chief Economist Masood Anwar, members of the P&D Board, and senior officials from various relevant departments.
