FBR wants to work with business community to increase country’s tax base

Islamabad: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Mahmood Pasha said on Wednesday that the FBR wanted to engage the business community in increasing the country’s tax base.

He expressed these views while talking to media at the FBR House in Islamabad alongside a delegation of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), led by its President Zahid Latif Khan.

“Directives have been passed on to all FBR offices to show respect to traders,” he said. “Regular consultation sessions are being held with traders and the business community to make amendments aimed at facilitating taxpayers.”

The RCCI president said traders across the board demand an end to harassment under the garb of tax collection. “FBR and income tax staff should treat traders with respect,” he said, adding that tax return filers must be exempted from tax audit.
