Power tussle in FPCCI lingers on

Members of the executive committee of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) have expressed concern over FPCCI President Zubair Tufail curtailing powers of FPCCI vice presidents and barring them from appointing regional standing committees.

A joint statement issued by Mian Usman Zulfiqar, Fehmida Jamali, Dr Shella Javed Akram, Mian Anjum Nisar, Fakhar -ud-Din Khan, Shahid-ur-Rehman, and Mohammad Wazir said that for many years now, it has been a practice of the regional chairmen to appoint chairmen of the standing committee to address problems of the regional business community. The incumbent President FPCCI Zubair Tufail, with a dictatorial mindset, has issued directives barring vice presidents and regional chairman to make such appointments in future.

They said that Zubair Tufail had acted on the wishes of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) CEO S M Munir in a sheer violation of FPCCI rules and regulations, adding that he had no moral or legal authority to sabotage their powers.

Former FPCCI President Ghulam Ali said that in the coming executive committee meeting they would raise the issue, and ask on what grounds the FPCCI president had issued his orders.
