IMC invests Rs4bn to increase production capacity by 20pc

ISLAMABAD: Indus Motor Company (IMC) has invested Rs4 billion to debottleneck its production facility and increase production capacity by 20 per cent i.e. up to 75,000 units annually, by the second quarter of 2018.

This was stated by IMC during a visit by the Minister of State for Industries and Production Sardar Mohammad Arshad Khan Laghari to its production plant.

During his visit, the minister lauded the company’s commitment to the auto sector and was briefed about the company’s contribution to national exchequer, economy, and employment, informed an IMC spokesperson.

‘‘IMC is the staunch promoter of “Make in Pakistan” and has a very strong commitment towards localisation. Around 150 million locally produced parts are used by IMC every day with purchases amounting to Rs40 billion annually. IMC has enabled 35 Technical Assistance Agreements with local as well as global auto part makers which have resulted in technology and knowledge transfer to Pakistan. Huge investments are also being made in local vendor industry to cater to the growing demand coming from both existing and new Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and aftermarket as well,’ the minister added.

Sardar Mohammad Arshad was informed that IMC’s flagship brand Corolla is ranked 23rd among 170 countries, with highest sales in Asia Pacific and 4th highest sales in the world. Locally produced Corolla is equipped with the best class quality and safety features and is equivalent to NCAP four star rating.
