Date for filing returns not extended, says FBR

ISLAMABAD: No decision has been taken so far to extend the date for filing income tax returns, an official from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) official said Thursday.

The last date for filing returns is 30 September and those who need more time to file returns should pay some tax to get an extension, said Chief Commissioner, Regional Tax Office Rawalpindi Dr Hamid Atiq Sarwar.

He said that the taxpayers who failed to file returns but deposited some tax will get a chance to adjust it later and they would an extension of fifteen days as chief commissioners are empowered for it.

The FBR official said this while talking to a delegation of Rawalpindi Islamabad Tax Bar Association (RITBA) led by its president Syed Tauqeer Bukhari.

Dr Hamid Atiq Sarwar said that the names of late filers would be removed from the active taxpayer’s list (ATL) and they would be able to include their names in the ATL by March, next year.

On the occasion, Syed Tauqeer Bukhari and other tax consultants including Faraz Fazal Sheikh, Naeemul Haq, Zahid Shafique, Syed Tanseer Bukhari, Sofia Akhtar, Hassan Raza, Khalid Masood and Tauseef Alam assured all out-cooperation to the chief commissioner and promised to push their clients to submit returns before the deadline.

A committee comprising tax officials and consultants was also formed to find ways and means to broaden the tax net.

  1. INCOME TAX RETURN FORMS BE MADE EASY ; AND MANUAL SUBMISSION OF RETURNS ALSO BE ALLOWED AS ALL THE TAX PAYERS ARE NOT AWARE OF
E-FILING . DESPITE HAVING PAID DUE TAX WE HAVE TO MAKE REPEATED REQUESTS FOR HELP WHICH IS ALSO EMBARRASSING.

  2. Who are they to assure and promise ?

they should know the law and avoid giving such assurances

FBR is bound by law to give 90days after the final of returns whereas every year FBR fails to do and start this game of date extension and insulting

  3. It is duty of FBR to bring online the Income tax Return, on 1st JUly 2018.
it is strange that irrespect of the fact that the authorities have full one year
to prepare the return. The same could only be on line on 18-08-2018.
It is un-fair not to extend the date for filing of returns for at least 60 days…

    • Well said. They themselves cannot prepare the form in over 12 months and expect us to file in 1.5 months. None the less it is doable, we are not as inefficient as the FBR. Deadlines should not be extended, if a penalty is prescribed, it should be paid and then FBR should be taken to task and their employees sacked. This way FBR will be ready next year and filers will also not slack.
