ISLAMABAD: Privatisation and Aviation Minister Muhammad Mian Soomro said on Tuesday that a new aviation policy was being designed keeping in view the recommendations of national and regional stakeholders.
Addressing the inaugural session of a three-day regional conference titled ‘Cooperative Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness Program- South Asia (COSCAP-SA)’ in Islamabad, Soomro said the new policy would ensure safety standards in aviation, facilitation of public besides focusing on logistics.
According to Radio Pakistan, he said the policy was particularly in line with the prime minister’s vision for promotion of tourism and facilitation of tourists in Pakistan.
Soomro said the conference was a testimony of the confidence reposed by regional stakeholders who have come to Pakistan to attend the conference, adding that this was the first such conference on aviation hosted by Pakistan.
The minister expressed hope that the conference would not only help increase capacity building of the Aviation Division but would also provide useful measures for further enhancement of the safety standards in aviation.
He said concrete steps were being taken to ensure a safe air travel in Pakistan in the wake of some airplane accidents that occurred during the last few years, adding that any further measures proposed in this conference would also be implemented.
Soomro said steps were also being taken with regard to bringing reforms in the Pakistan International Airlines.
