Swiss envoy foresees more investment in Pakistan

PESHAWAR: Ambassador of Switzerland Thomas Kolly said on Tuesday that more investment would come to Pakistan following the restoration of peace and order in the region.

He said this during a daylong visit to district Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he also visited tourists’ sites. The envoy said that the Swiss government would invest in the tourism sector and beautification of Mardan in order to make the district a tourists’ destination.

He said that Swiss government was the fifth biggest investor in Pakistan and vowed that the bilateral relations between the two countries would strengthen in future.

Earlier, he inaugurated Legal Aid Unit and Human Rights Focal Point in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council. The Legal Aid Unit is part of ‘Strengthening Rule of Law Programme’ initiated by the United Nationals Development Programme (UNDP).

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Swiss envoy said that being a lawyer himself, he understood the problems being faced by the poor litigants in seeking justice. He said that free Legal Aid Unit was a landmark achievement and assured more cooperation in the justice-related programmes in future.

A representative of UNDP said that a scholarship programme for female lawyers in the newly merged districts of KP is also on the cards.
