Fawad wants to replace debit cards with mobile payment system

ISLAMABAD: Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday that his next challenge would be to replace debit cards in the country with a mobile phone payment system.

“It is necessary for payments to be made easy for technological advancement. Inshallah in the next few months you will be able to make all your payments through your mobile from your bus ticket to purchasing a new car,” Chaudhry wrote on Twitter.

On Sunday, the minister launched the country’s first moonsighting website and Hijri Calendar and announced that based on the lunar observations, Eid will be celebrated on June 5th.

The minister said that he has sent the five-year Hijri Calendar to the Islamic Ideology Council, adding that the calendar will be presented before cabinet on Wednesday.

“I personally believe that there is no need to have Ruet-t-Hilal Committee in the country,” he maintained

Fawad Chaudhry said that a number of departments have collaborated to make the moonsighting website and calendar.
