ISLAMABAD: Telecom operator Jazz tested out the fifth-generation (5G) of mobile technology at its digital headquarters in Islamabad, where average download speeds of 1,452Mbps and upload speeds of 68Mbps were achieved along with successful HD Voice & Video calls.
Previously, China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak), popularly known as Zong, carried out the first official test of its 5G network in the country on August 22, 2019. Back then, both Jazz and Telenor announced that they have conducted their in-house 5G trials but rollout for both of them was hit by license renewal issues.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority had earlier announced that “5G licenses are not being issued, while the authority is encouraging telcos to test the wireless technology before licenses can be issued”.
Jazz CEO Amir Ibrahim, talking about the successful 5G trials, said, “We are pleased with the initial 5G trials and are ready to fast track the technology across Pakistan, whenever the process gets initiated by the government. These trials showcase our commitment towards a digital Pakistan, which is why we have been the frontrunners in deploying the latest mobile technology.”
