ISLAMABAD: Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Minister Asad Umar on Thursday chaired a meeting to review progress on the establishment of Hyderabad University/Institute.
Senior officials from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the Planning Commission of Pakistan and MNAs from Hyderabad- Sabir Hussain Kaimkhani and Salahud Din- participated in the meeting.
Asad Umar underlined the need to increase opportunities of higher education in Hyderabad to cater its large population.
“The prime minster has directed that the project be expeditiously implemented, so I will personally monitor the implementation of this project until its completion,” Umar said.
The HEC executive director on the occasion briefed the meeting on the steps taken for the establishment of the institution.
He said the proposal for charter of the institute had been submitted to the Cabinet Committee for its considerations and recommendations.
The sale deed for the transfer of 80 acres and available infrastructure at Gulistan-e-Sarmast, (Kohsar Zaone) had been agreed, the HEC official said and added that a signing ceremony would be held in this regard by second week of February.
The HEC had advertised to hire the services of a consulting firm besides receiving proposals, the official told the meeting, he added.
The minister directed that a steering committee be set up to expedite the processes and to ensure completion of the project at earliest.
Asad Umar also directed HEC to expedite implementation of various higher education projects to make sure that the financial allocations were fully utilized.
