ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has said the people fighting against coronavirus pandemic in the country would not have any new taxes in the upcoming fiscal budget.
In an interview with a private news channel, he said, “There is no plan to introduce new taxes in the upcoming budget, which is being prepared keeping in mind the coronavirus outbreak.
On a query, he said the government was aware of the country’s defence need and, in this regard, all required funds would be provided to this sector under FY21 budget.
Commenting on power shortage, he said no shortfall in the power generating sector was reported anywhere in the country, claiming that there were units of electricity to fulfill the demand of the consumers.
Sheikh maintained the government would curtail extra expenditures and steps would be taken for proper collection of taxes in the country.
To another question, the adviser said Pakistan’s economy would produce better results as soon as coronavirus situation is over.
