The Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif has instructed that 2,673 people whose businesses have been impacted and affected by the building activities of Lahore Orange Metro Train project (OLMT) will be provided a tax exemption of Rs112.9m professional tax exemption of Rs0.93m. This disclosure was made by OLMT Steering Committee Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan on Wednesday.
He told the Chief Minister had instructed the provincial tax authorities to undertake a survey again for assessing roadside vendors and small shopkeepers who didn’t fall in the ambit of either property or income taxpayers. By identifying them, it would be easier then to provide the necessary relief packages, Hassaan stated.
While addressing the meeting, Hassaan informed the participants that two-thirds of ground civil works had already been done, and attempts are being made to commence operations by the end of December this year. He directed the OLMT contractors to fasten their pace of work and construction between Samanabad and Chowk Yateem Khana to facilitate the smooth operation and flow of traffic along Multan road.
The meeting was attended by WASA Managing Director Chaudhry Abdul Qadeer, LDA Chief Engineer Asrar Saeed, Punjab Mass Transit Authority General Manager Syed Ozair Shah, NESPAK General Manager Salman Hafeez and others.
