The current CEO and president Wajahat Husain’s tenure expired on May 31, 2017. After taking charge, Sima will become the first woman to head one of the big five commercial banks in Pakistan.

The Board of Directors United Bank Limited (UBL) on March 27, 2017 had announced the appointment of Sima Kamil as new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UBL. She was to perform her duties as deputy CEO of the bank until May 31, a notice of the bank received by Pakistan stock Exchange (PSX) had stated.

Previously, Sima had been heading branch banking at Habib Bank limited (HBL) for 16 years.

In connection with Sima’s appointment, the UBL has submitted a letter to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for its final approval.

The letter had said that the board meeting of the Bank held on 24 March 2017 regretted a note that Wajahat Husain, president and CEO UBL would not be seeking extension in his contract for personal reasons. The Board recognised and appreciated efforts of Husain as an effective leader during his tenure, the letter detailed.
