Efforts underway to boost bilateral trade between Pakistan and Iran

Sialkot: Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Mehdi Honardoost on Friday said efforts were underway to boost direct bilateral trade between both countries.

He said this while speaking at a meeting held at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

Honardoost said trade between the two brotherly nations had witnessed an increase of 35pc and reassured the business community that Iranian trade markets will be activated along border areas of Pakistan soon.

Iranian ambassador went onto add all impediments and trade barriers will be eliminated and aim would be to facilitate bilateral trade ties between Pakistan and Iran. He advised Pakistani exporters to focus on Iranian international trade markets and gain benefits at all Iranian Free Trade Zones.

He shared that several Iranian companies had expressed an interest in entering into joint ventures with Pakistani businessman and the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project could be a game-changer for the region.

SCCI President Zahid Latif Malik said both countries need to boost its bilateral cooperation in several areas to benefit from each other’s expertise.

Malik added “So far, Pakistan and Iran have not been able to build their relationship on an economic footing as indicated by discouraging trade figures. There is a need to take immediate and drastic steps to increase bilateral trade.”
